Developing the natural talent of our people is one of our greatest priorities. The Metis Settlements Strategic Training Initiatives Society (STI) has been created to give you ways to find the funding you need to get the training you want.

STI also provides options for:

  • Individual sponsorship
  • Group training
  • Disabled persons
  • Youth funding

About STI

Under the direction of the Metis Settlements General Council, the Metis Settlements Strategic Training Initiatives Society (STI) empowers Metis people from settlements with training that helps them realize their potential – and their dreams.

STI delivers Labour Market Development Programs through the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) to assist Metis Settlements residents for the workforce and for a career by preparing, obtaining, and maintaining employment. STI training also provides options for disabled persons.

STI History

On April 1, 1996, responsibility for designing and delivering programs to support aboriginal employment and training was taken over by aboriginal organizations across Canada. This transfer of responsibility was a fifteen year process which saw the gradual shift of programming authority from the federal government to aboriginal people at the national, regional and community levels.
